ICID organized Bal Mela: A Festival for Underprivileged Children of Nagpur at SFS College
Bal Mela, a fulfilled day was held at SFS College to give an opportunity to the children from the slums, villages and streets to exhibit their talents. Over 700 children between the age group of 10-18 from Tulsinagar, Bandewadi, Chikli, Pilinadi, Hazaripahad, Gittikhadan, Rajnagar and Jaripatka became the part of this unique event.
Mrs. Universe, Zoya Sheik was the chief guest of the Bal mela function, children were thrilled to see the celebrity before them. She addressed the children said that the hard work will yield its result in due time. Giving her own example, she went on to state that she strived hard and won the Mrs. Universe 3rd runners up in 2022. Col. Abhay Patwardhan, retired army officer encouraged the children as there are number of opportunities in life to excel. The children need to be focused in their goal.
Police inspector Sanjey Mende who was present on the occasion encouraged the children to get on in a right direction now itself not to focus on the world outside and lose their goals. Rupali fating PSI Jaripatka police station said that safety and security of the children is the main concern in the online world. Hence each child should remain safe in their areas for which the facilities are provided in the form of helpline numbers 112 and 1098.
Director of ICID Fr. Advocate Praveen Monteiro gave an overview of the Balmela. He said for the past 20 years ICID- Yuvajyothi has done a commendable service towards protecting the rights of the children, adolescent girls and women. Basic needs have been given to the street and the homeless children at Yuvajyoyhi.
Rashmi Uikey, Councilor, Ms. Megha Kapoor, International Makeup Artists, Archbishop Elias Gonsalves, Dr. KT Thomas, Principal SFS College etc. were also present on the day as guests.
The day started with the Music Band led by Ms. Arzoo Kale and team. Children enjoyed the rhythm of the music and action songs. The cultural program included variety of dances from different areas by the children. Post lunch children enjoyed the games stalls in the open ground. The joy was doubled as the DJ was played and the children actively took part in the dance. Children were served nutritious food for breakfast as well for the lunch. The entire day was filled with joy, laughter and happiness. The staff of ICID, SFS college and students worked tirelessly to make the Bal mela event a successful one.
